This exam has been recently instituted by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and coordinated by the Bioinformatics Center at the University of Pune.
I was looking for some information on Bioinformatics Ph.D programs in Institute Of Bioinformatics (IOB), Bangalore and saw that one of the requirements was certification through BINC. I checked it out and came across this exam. The exam for this year was held on Feb 22, 2009 at various centers all over India. I am afraid only about 391 people appeared for it this year. So it is probably still not very well known or people are not aware of it.
Such certifications will help create a standard for Bioinformatics study in India and I am happy to see that the Government has recognized the need for the same.
